Colorado's homeless pets need you!

No Kill Colorado started as a grassroots movement in 2011 to educate the public about successful shelter models that save every healthy treatable homeless pet entering the shelter system. The programs and services are being implemented in Colorado with wild success and we are proud our organization has been a catalyst in this change. No Kill Colorado, using these model successes, works with the community, rescues, and shelters to improve save rates, moving Colorado ever closer to a No Kill state.

In previous years, monies raised by No Kill Colorado runners and supporters from the Colfax Marathon helped fund the following activities:

Our Home for the Holidays campaign has gained greater lifesaving goals each year.  This event gets older pets and pets with special medical or behavioral needs in a loving home in November and December.

Participating in spay and neuter events (targeting underserved communities) in partnership with other Colorado rescues and charities that resulted in the spay and neutering of hundreds of cats and dogs, including community cats.

Our ongoing effort to reform Animal Services continues unabated. We strongly believe Colorado has entered the last phase of becoming the safest state for homeless pets.

Colorado legislation related to the Pet Animal Care Facilities Act, also known as PACFA, is always on our radar.  PACFA regulates rescues, shelters, transporters, breeders, and even dog-sitters across the state.   No Kill Colorado in partnership with other No Kill organizations, continues to monitor and influence legislation to benefit homeless pets and deter the unintended consequences of legislation when poorly formed.

BSL (breed specific legislation) is on the run thanks to the efforts of many Coloradans.  No Kill supports all reversal of any BSL and is proud that there are no communities left in Colorado with this regressive ban.

NKC continues to promote the No Kill sheltering model with the public by participating in community events including:

  • YES! Colorado has taken a giant leap towards a more compassionate future for animals! The passage of HB25-1137 is a victory for Colorado pets and all the community cats who deserve a chance at a healthy life. By supporting TNR and spay/neuter, we're creating a more humane and sustainable solution to pet overpopulation. Thank you to everyone who made this possible!

  • Sponsoring “The Champions” movie screening (about 3 Vick dogs)

  • No Kill Colorado participates in rescue events and community networking opportunities to bring PACFA and other animal welfare organizations together to collaborate and save more lives.
  • Working with cat advocacy groups to provide desperately needed food, spay neuter and TNR (Trap neuter Release for Denver feral cat caregivers
  • Partnering with Pet Pantry to help collect resources for families in need.
  • Denver passed a ban on declawing! No Kill Colorado did not lead this initiative but was a supporter of the great work Aubrie Lavizzo and Paw Project did to bring this to the city council. We hope this gains attention and continues to spread throughout the state!
  • Please help us this year by donating and supporting one of our teams or fundraisers through a donation. Thsi support will allow No Kill Colorado to continue to implement and support innovative programs for rescues, shelters and the community and further the cause of saving more shelter animal lives.

No Kill Colorado is 501c3.  All donations are tax deductible.
