The Public Road trailhead is Lafayette’s busiest and most important access point for Coal Creek. Let’s beautify it with a mural!
Together with the City of Lafayette Open Space Department and with a Public Art grant from the City of Lafayette Arts and Cultural Council, Friends of Coal Creek is moving forward with the installation of a nature-themed mural on the west retaining wall of the Public Road underpass.
After an open call for artists, a judging committee selected Stacey Long Reynolds as our muralist. Reynolds submitted three beautiful mural designs on July 1 for public voting. (See the options and cast your vote now!) Voting is open until July 31, 2025 and the mural will be completed by October 1, 2025.
The Public Art grant covered much of the project expenses and we are seeking additional support from the public to help us reach our project goal. If you have ever passed the area and longed for something prettier than a gunmetal gray retaining wall, now is your chance to be part of that change.
Your support ensures that the mural will remain vibrant and in good repair so it may be enjoyed by all passersby — whether walking, running, on a bike, with a dog, pushing a baby stroller or any of the other ways we come to the creek — can enjoy its luxuriant beauty.
All donors will be named and thanked on a project page on Friends of Coal Creek’s website and will be named in a program at the ribbon cutting.
