This year, our Fall Campaign takes a unique path.

With each successful capital project, we've enhanced the quality of care at Estes Park Health, making quality healthcare a cornerstone of our town's identity. Now, as an affiliation with a new healthcare group draws near, our commitment to quality, local, healthcare remains steadfast, but our focus has shifted.

We're redirecting our efforts towards nurturing innovation and program development. We're rallying behind new ideas that have the potential to elevate patient care, community outreach, and health education in the Estes Valley.

Initiatives include expanding and improving upon services that have direct patient impact, such as Cardiac Rehab, Outpatient Mental Health, Pulmonary Rehab, and improving the Sleep Lab.

Description of Potential Fundraising Initiatives

Initiative: Cardiac Rehab Phase 1: Acute, In-Patient Care

Why is Cardiac Rehab Programming Important? Cardiac rehab is a lifesaving outpatient chronic disease management program. Individuals who attend thirty-six sessions have a 47% lower risk of death and a 31% lower risk of heart attack than those who attend only one session. Patients who completed the full program showed the most benefit by reducing their death rates by 50% over those who only did one session of cardiac rehabilitation. Unfortunately, only about 20% to 30% of eligible patients participate in cardiac rehab programs. The main goal for the first phase of cardiac rehabilitation is to enable a patient to leave the hospital and return home as quickly and safely as possible and generate interest in participating in a complete rehab program to improve patient quality of life.

Initiative: Pulmonary Rehab Programming

Why is Pulmonary Rehab Important? Pulmonary rehabilitation programs help people recover from major life-altering health problems like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, or lung cancer. Exercise sessions are designed to improve strength and fitness and are individualized according to the patient’s level of fitness. Education is given about such topics as anatomy, physiology, diet, medications, and stress management.

Initiative: Outpatient Behavioral Health Counseling Program

Why is Establishing an Outpatient Mental Health Counseling Program Important? More than 50% of Americans will be diagnosed with a mental health condition in their lifetime, making mental health a pressing issue. EPH does offer services in the mental health area, but this program will be more complete and focus on development and implementation of a structured outpatient mental health treatment program utilizing the services of an outside agency. This program will have a detailed schedule that uses a variety of therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and group therapy.

Initiative: Improve Sleep Lab Performance & Sleep Lab Availability

Why is Improving Sleep Lab Facilities Important in Estes Park? Research links higher altitude with increased sleep apnea. EPH does offer sleep lab testing, but improvements in both the testing space accommodations and its location are needed. These changes will improve both volume and reimbursement. The ability to increase the number of people seen and diagnose and offer treatment to their sleep challenges will improve the quality of Estes Park patients’ lives.
