I have now been on the One Colorado Board for almost two full years and it has been the honor of my life. Watching the One Colorado team do the work they do every day to protect the rights of all Coloradans is inspiring. Especially in the current climate. They work tirelessly to defend the rights and dignity of all. Through their efforts Colorado has become a state where people come to live openly and freely without fear. Colorado has the most rights and protections than any other state for the LGBTQ+ community and we will continue to be a shining example for other states because of the work of One Colorado.
I am also a real estate agent and I have to share a story with you. Clients reach out to me when they are living in states like Texas and have transgender children. They are fearful of what might happen to them or their children if they stay. This year, I had a mom call me because she wanted to move her family to Colorado. We discussed school districts that had affirming policies for her children. Fast forward to the day of Closing. The family moved to Colorado a week before closing so the kids could start school on time. School started on that Monday and our Closing for the new home was on Friday. We were sitting at the Closing table and the mom was smiling ear to ear, not just because she had purchased a new home for her family. She told me that her trans kid had already made 5 friends and was coming out of their shell. This kid was a young teenager and had never had a friend in their life. This is why I do what I do and why I'm so glad that One Colorado does what they do!
