Black Philanthropy Month

Access Mode exists because opportunity should not require permission.

Every year during Black Philanthropy Month, we're reminded that giving in Black communities has never been new. It's tradition. Mutual aid, pooled resources, and collective investment built businesses, churches, schools, and neighborhoods long before "philanthropy" was a word anyone used to describe it. Access Mode is part of that lineage, not separate from it.

Our work is simple in concept and demanding in practice: we remove the barriers that keep capable entrepreneurs from building. That means free programming, real mentorship, and direct access to the relationships and resources that too many founders are told to earn their way into first.

This year alone, that meant 

- Two pitch competitions with cash prizes and personalized mentorship for competing founders. 

- One cohort of nine founders spending fourteen weeks and more than 100 hours in programming built around pitch preparation, network introductions to potential customers and investors, and connections to outside resources. 

- Additional workshops offering networking and advice about navigating which kind of capital actually fits a founder's business, plus a number of panel discussions we hosted and participated in throughout the community.

All of it, free of charge, to every founder, regardless of background.

That's what this $15,000 goal supports: not a single event or a one-time grant, but the infrastructure behind all of it. Staff time. Mentor coordination. Curriculum. Cash prizes and program costs that make "free and ongoing" possible instead of aspirational.

When a founder walks into an Access Mode program, they're not asking for charity. They're claiming access they were always entitled to. Our job is to make sure that access is actually there when they show up, not conditional, not limited, not seasonal.

This Black Philanthropy Month, we're asking our community to invest in that access. Not because founders need saving. Because the infrastructure that supports their building deserves the same consistency they bring to it.

Every dollar raised keeps programming free for the founders currently in it, and open for the ones who haven't found us yet.
