Aurora Public Schools uses a multiprong approach to addressing food insecurity in our community, through both Family Food Centers and Farmers Markets.
Family Food Centers utilize the Food as Medicine Model, which ensures that the way food is procured for our community members is intentional and meets their nutritional and cultural needs. As a family comes through the Food Center, they first undergo an intake process to ensure they are receiving access to all the resources and programs they need. They then "shop" the bodega-style market to obtain both pantry staples and two weeks' worth of culturally relevant meats, dairy and fresh produce.
APS also offers Farmers Markets rotating throughout the community. Similar to the Food Clinics, families are empowered to make intentional choices that meet their needs and reflect their culture.
