One of Hotel de Paris Museum's current priorities is caring for the Hazel McAdams Clothing Collection, an extraordinary group of garments that helps tell the story of Hazel Mary Ellen Burkholder McAdams who lived in and cared for the Hotel de Paris long after Louis Dupuy's era. Help us bring the collections expert back this October!
Hazel’s life was closely tied to Hotel de Paris. She grew up there, celebrated major milestones at the hotel, inherited it in 1926, and later made one of Colorado’s most important preservation decisions by selling the property and its original contents to The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Colorado in 1954.
Properly organizing, stabilizing, and storing these fragile textiles requires specialized archival materials and countless hours of careful work. Because of Hazel’s vision, we can care for both the hotel and her personal clothing collection.
Volunteers and collections staff have completed the initial phase of documenting, assessing, and rehousing these historic garments. Along the way, we've uncovered remarkable details that bring objects to life—from campaign memorabilia hidden within a dress to construction techniques, fabrics, and personal touches. Each discovery reminds us that clothing is more than fashion; it is a tangible connection to the people, events, and everyday experiences that shaped Georgetown's history.
This important work would not be possible without the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our outstanding volunteers. Donor investments are helping ensure irreplaceable garments are preserved according to museum best practices and will be available for future exhibitions, research, and education.
