The Rocky Mountain Folk School was founded to keep traditional arts alive in the heart of Grand Lake — a place where creativity, craftsmanship, and community come together. Since opening our doors in 2021, we’ve grown into a year-round hub for hands-on learning, offering workshops in fiber arts, leatherwork, woodworking, and more.
Now, in partnership with the Grand Lake Creative District and the Town of Grand Lake, we’re taking the next big step: managing the new Maker Space within the Space to Create Grand Lake project. This shared workspace will be a home for artisans, students, and working ranchers to develop and practice their skills in leatherworking, woodworking, and metalsmithing.
With your support this Colorado Gives Day, we can equip the Maker Space with the essential tools and workstations needed to open the doors — from woodworking benches and leather tooling stations to metalsmithing equipment. Your contribution will help create a space where both traditional and contemporary makers can learn, collaborate, and build lasting skills.
This project also supports our future vision of expanding cowboy trades education — including saddle making, silversmithing, and bootmaking — and continuing our collaborations with the Rocky Mountain Wooden Boat School to preserve the craftsmanship of the mountain region.
Together, we can create a space that honors the past while inspiring the next generation of makers. Every donation brings us closer to opening the doors of the Maker Space and continuing the Folk School’s mission to keep hands-on traditions alive in Grand Lake.
