SMCS is a free, K-8 public charter school whose Mission is to offer an authentic Montessori education leading to students who are independent, inquisitive, respectful and empowered to realize their individual potential in future academic and life endeavors. SMCS also is home to a tuition-based preschool for ages 1-4 years.

SMCS’ vision is to create an educational experience instilling the skills and knowledge for students to determine their personal visions of success and to achieve them. We strive to create a culture that encourages students to respect themselves, other people, and the environment. We are a school community that values every child and encourages involvement from every family.

Our 2023 Colorado Gives Fundraiser supports the daily operations of our school, our vision for increasing accessibility to Montessori education across Salida and Chaffee County, and creating a safer space for all students to learn, recreate, and interact with one another.
