The Monticello High School volleyball program is sponsoring a fundraiser for research and advocacy on Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). This initiative is in honor of Coach Maya Stephens, the Head JV Coach, and her sister Madison, who has been battling PSC for several years now. This November, Maya will be donating part of her liver to Madison so that she may have a liver transplant and hopefully get back to a more regular life.
Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis is a rare, chronic autoimmune disease that causes progressive scarring and narrowing of the bile ducts, which can lead to liver damage and eventual liver failure. The disease shows up differently for all that are diagnosed with it, but for many, PSC is life-threatening. Currently, there is no known cure for PSC. This is why the advancement of medical and pharmaceutical research is critical.
"PSC Partners Seeking a Cure" is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting those affected by PSC through education, advocacy, community connection, and a relentless commitment to funding research for a cure. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to this organization. Your contribution means a lot to the MHS Community and to Coach Maya.
