For most people, PSC is an acronym they've never heard of.
For me, it has shaped much of my adult life.
PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis) is a rare disease that attacks the bile ducts and slowly damages the liver. There is still no approved treatment to stop its progression and no cure.
My PSC journey has included two liver transplants, battles with post-transplant lymphoma, countless appointments, procedures, lab draws, and more uncertainty than I care to remember. Yet I also recognize how fortunate I have been. Because of organ donors, remarkable physicians, advances in medicine, and the support of family and friends, I am here today living a full and rewarding life.
When I attended my first PSC Partners conference in 2009, I met people who understood exactly what I was going through. That experience changed my life. Since then, I've had the privilege of serving PSC Partners in many capacities—from webmaster to Board Chair—and I've watched our community grow from one that had very little hope to one driving world-class research and bringing patients, families, and scientists together.
Research is making a difference. We know more about PSC today than we did when I was diagnosed. New discoveries are happening. Clinical trials are expanding. Progress is real—but there is still a long way to go.
That is why I participate in Move for PSC.
I'm not fundraising just for myself. I'm fundraising for the person who heard the letters "PSC" for the first time yesterday. For the parent worried about their child. For everyone waiting for a treatment that can delay—or eliminate—the need for a liver transplant.
My hope is simple:
Let's make PSC boring.
Let's make it a disease that has effective treatments. A disease that no longer requires transplants. A disease that physicians know exactly how to manage. A disease that families don't have to fear.
If you're able to support my Move for PSC campaign, thank you. Every donation helps fund research, education, advocacy, and patient support through PSC Partners Seeking a Cure.
Together, we can help write a very different future for everyone living with PSC.
