Give the Gift of Reading This Colorado Gives Day
Bring Raising a Reader to Eagle County’s youngest learners.
Many Eagle County children don’t have consistent access to books at home or regular opportunities to read with a caregiver, both critical to early literacy success. Families want to support their children’s learning, but they need accessible tools, guidance, and culturally responsive resources to do it well.
That is where The Literacy Project comes in.
Our program, Raising a Reader gives families books, routines, and support that carry literacy beyond the classroom. After taking part, families and educators report that children show more interest in reading, more enthusiasm for learning, and greater readiness for school.
How Raising a Reader works
Children bring home a bag filled with award-winning, bilingual, carefully selected books to enjoy with their caregivers.
Parents and caregivers get easy-to-use tips for making reading time engaging and beneficial.
Families are introduced to local libraries, helping them build a long-term habit of borrowing and reading together.
The Classic Red Book Bag materials are designed for repeated use, so an initial investment can last up to seven years.
Our goal and what your investment brings
We have 365 Red Book Bags in circulation today, and our goal is to reach 500.
$115 provides one Red Book Bag for a child
$50 funds parent training, helping caregivers feel confident in reading with their children
