Hi friends -

I'm not sure where I would be without the unconditional love & companionship of animals. They are a reminder to stay present and enjoy the simple things; they're a tremendous source of warmth, joy and connection; they are an antidote to when human goings-on can feel less than joyful.

For so many of us, our animal companions are truly part of our family; yet the lack of robust, widespread, compassionate, humane animal welfare & protections remains one of our society's most persistent flaws. Our community is so lucky to have incredible places like Foothills Animal Shelter, providing vital care, resources and services for our region's animals / pets, as well as for humans.

I adopted my first dog (Bear!) from Foothills more than eight years ago, after agonizing and planning and making sure I was ready for the responsibility of dog ownership. Fast forward to now - with two dogs, two cats, and a small farm rescue currently with a dozen goats and a pair of alpacas - my ability to integrate animals into my life and family has clearly grown, and my commitment to rescue and adoption runs deep.

It has been a joyful and a full-circle experience to become a volunteer at Foothills this year. Each week I get to connect with and love on dozens of animals - dogs primarily - taking them on their walks, spending as much quality time with them as possible, sharing their photos and stories to friends and on social media, and even helping visitors meet and potentially adopt them as a Kennel Guide.

This season of giving is an opportunity for you to support Foothills Animal Shelter, too. Community donations are a vital source of financial support for Foothills, and this year the shelter is aiming to raise $375,000 by Tuesday December 8, Colorado Gives Day. I'm aiming to help them raise $5000 toward that goal.

See below for more information on Foothills! And thank you for all you do to support animal welfare in our community, and to support my favorite (some might say "pet" :)) causes.

Warmly,

christi.

Foothills Animal Shelter is Jefferson County's only open-admission animal shelter and Colorado's largest single-campus animal agency. Foothills shelters more than 8,500 pets and provides relationship-saving resources for 6,000+ community animals each year.

Mission

As a loyal companion of Foothills Animal Shelter, the mission of the Friends of Foothills Animal Shelter is to raise funds to support the Shelter's lifesaving work.

Foothills Animal Shelter is dedicated to providing support to our surrounding community through services that strengthen the human-pet bond and humane care for the animals we serve. Our programs strive to make life better for pets and people.

Background Statement

Originally founded in 1976, the Jefferson Animal Shelter initially served as the impound facility for unincorporated Jefferson County and the cities of Arvada, Lakewood and Wheat Ridge. In 1994, the shelter grew to meet the increased demands on the facility, changing its name to Table Mountain Animal Center and expanding services to the city of Golden. In early August of 2010, Table Mountain Animal Center became Foothills Animal Shelter and moved to its new location at 580 McIntyre adjacent to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Today, Foothills Animal Shelter provides companion animal shelter services to all of Jefferson County.

In August of 2014, the Friends of Foothills Animal Shelter was incorporated and received 501c3 status. Friends of Foothills Animal Shelter serves as a loyal companion to Foothills Animal Shelter, raising funds to further support the Shelter's life-saving work.
