Friends, welcome to my Giving Project fundraiser! I’m delighted to see you here. Why? Because I get to share with you something I’m passionate about that I think you might care about too, and because your presence here means that we just may grow the movement of people seeding social change. I hope that brings you as much joy as it brings me - at a time when joy is needed more than ever.
So, what’s The Giving Project, you ask?
The Giving Project is Chinook Fund’s democratized grantmaking process that brings together a diverse cohort of people from all income levels who are passionate about social change and interested in developing in fundraising, grantmaking, and community building. Collectively, the Giving Project cohort raises funds to resource emerging social justice leaders across Colorado.
And why did I join the giving project?
Oh, I joined for too many reasons to count! The main reason I joined the Giving Project is because I believe that systemic social change is possible - and that it’s most possible when led from the ground-up.
Someone once told me this very important truth: the people closest to the issue are also closest to the solution. I’ve witnessed this truth with my own eyes and in my own organizing work. I’ve also lived it with my own struggles and suffering.
The Giving Project is moving money to small, grassroots groups and organizations led by people directly impacted by the challenges they’re working to address. And I have to say, some of GP’s recent grantees are engaged in some powerful and transformative WORK.
How can you (and I) support this work?
It’s actually very simple. You can make a gift. I’m making one too. In fact, I already did. My meaningful contribution is $600, and my total fundraising goal for friends and family members is $5,000.
Ok, but why is this important?
Your gift is not just an investment in the grantees. It’s also an investment in me. I joined this Giving Project not just so I could have a greater impact, but also so I could deconstruct some of the narratives I have around philanthropy, move from a place of abundance, and learn how to do those things through a liberatory lens, and in community with a group of my peers.
It would mean a lot for you to support me in that.
Your gift of any amount (no, really, any amount) will move me closer to my fundraising goal and move money directly into the hands of changemakers.
Thank you for supporting me, for loving me, and for ensuring the work that I dedicated my heart and soul to while in Colorado continues long after my presence there has ended.
