Making a Huge Difference in the Lives of Kids: What Skaters and their Parents say about the Steamboat Skating Club

"In the Skating Club, I get to be myself, work hard, and learn new things with my friends. Everyone is so supportive. I have a family there," Skating Club skater

"Our daughter has found her passion, confidence, and dearest friends through the skating club, for which we are hugely grateful. We love that she's learning courage, grit, and resilience in literally having to get up when she falls," Skating Club Mom and Dad

"What's so cool about the Skating Club is we're a team, even when we're competing against each other. My teammates cheer me on, and are the first ones there when I don't do as well as I want. I love the Ice Show, and the chance to show what I and the whole Club can do!" Skating Club skater

"I have watched my child's self esteem and confidence grow by leaps and bounds in the Steamboat Skating Club. I have not experienced this strong of a commitment to the positive developmental growth of my children in any other extracurricular program in Steamboat or anywhere. The Skating Club is truly a special, one of a kind program, unmatched in my opinion," Skating Club parent.

Mission

The Steamboat Skating Club is an inclusive organization that provides ice skaters of all abilities and ambitions the opportunity to develop personally, athletically and artistically in a positive, fun, and supportive environment.

Background Statement

• The Steamboat Skating Club is the only youth development figure skating programming of its kind in the Yampa Valley for children and young adults ages 5 - 18.

• Founded in 1994 as the Steamboat Figure Skating Club, the Steamboat Skating Club has engaged hundreds of skaters in its 29 years of operations. In 2023-24, we have 50 skaters of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities from beginner to advanced.

• The Steamboat Skating Club is led by a coaching staff of five highly accomplished figure skaters, one of whom also serves in a Director capacity, and a volunteer board.

• The Skating Club is proud to continue our annual tradition of a Spring Ice show - a Theater On Ice inspired performance for our community. Past shows have ranged from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Seussical and we look forward to March, 2024 when we present Beauty and the Beast. The Ice Show features skaters of all ages and abilities, and showcases our skater's enthusiasm, teamwork, and talents. Our Spring Ice Show is an event loved by the community and skaters alike and we are always looking forward to our next performance under the spotlights!

• Donations help keep costs affordable while maintaining quality programming. Every dollar you give to the Steamboat Skating Club goes a long way to maintaining our skaters' growth and development as young people, self-confidence, learning how to work as part of a team, love of skating, and community engagement through our programs.
