The Colorado Sierra Club is a powerful collective of changemakers working together to advance climate solutions, act for justice, get outdoors, and protect our lands, water, air, and wildlife. We are an organization that believes in the power of people working together to make change happen. With the support of our over 16,000 members across the state and 50,000 supporters, we have worked with communities to stand against oil and gas development in their neighborhoods, advocated with partners to promote environmental justice and set meaningful state-wide emissions reduction goals, and educate the public about the importance of wildlife to our Colorado ecosystems in the face of a changing climate.

"Sierra Club attracts people who care about the environment and bands us together to make a positive impact." - Jon Gross

Mission

To protect the earth by educating, empowering, and inspiring people to make change.

Background Statement

Founded in 1892, the Sierra Club is the nation's largest and oldest grassroots environmental organization.

The Sierra Club Colorado Chapter formed in 1965 along with several local groups here in Colorado. During the 60's and 70's, Sierra Club activists and advocates were responsible for some of Colorado's most beautiful wilderness areas becoming protected by the federal government.

Between then and now, the Colorado Sierra Club has been a has remained an anchor of the growing Colorado environmental community, and we want to achieve so much more as we face modern challenges such as climate change, oil and gas drilling damage to the landscape, habitat protection, and human health and safety.

We will continue to explore, enjoy, and protect Colorado.

The Sierra Club Foundation is the 501(c)(3) public charity fiscal sponsor of the Colorado Sierra Club's charitable programs. By law, the Sierra Club Foundation retains control and discretion/variance power over all charitable funds received, including how they are disbursed within the purposes for which they were contributed; the Foundation reserves the unilateral right to select those recipients or beneficiaries it believes will best accomplish those purposes. Accordingly, funds that may remain after a specific purpose has been achieved or is no longer necessary or feasible will be used to support programs that the Foundation determines are reasonably similar to the intended purpose for which donated. Such funds may be directed to the organization to which originally directed or a similar program or another organization within the general mission of the Sierra Club Foundation.
