Testimonials

Here our impact from our families: View our 2023 video

"I love the Scholars Unlimited program. It gives students a chance to build social skills and learn above and beyond their school day. It is clear that Scholars Unlimited has a strong commitment to community." Elizabeth, Scholars Unlimited Parent

“Scholars Unlimited’s after school program has been incredibly helpful for me and my family. We absolutely love the program, especially as a working mom. My daughter’s social, emotional, and literacy skills have improved as she always get to be engaged with other students. Thank you for doing this for our community.” - Gabriela, Scholars Unlimited Parent

“It is a huge relief for us as a family. My husband is only paid when he goes to work, so there have been times where we could not afford after school care. If we needed to pay it would have been a huge struggle for us. Having Scholars Unlimited at no-cost is a huge and means everything to our family.”- Shannon, Scholars Unlimited Parent

"Scholars Unlimited has helped Gervon's confidence to learn, grow as a leader, and help him socially. The summer program really helped create a smooth transition for Gervon and gave him a boost to thrive in the school year. With summer programs being expensive, especially when I'm at work, it is hard to contribute to his development so Scholars Unlimited allowed me to provide a safe space for my son. I am very grateful"- Demetria, Scholars Unlimited Parent

"Scholars Unlimited is always beneficial for the kids in terms of continuing education.
However, this past summer program was especially important. My kids have been
remote learners since March 2020. Part of a grade plus an entire grade were spent
online, so, while continuing their education is part of the benefit, being a part of a
community beyond their home and being able to socialize and being taught in a
classroom setting was exponential." Samantha, Scholars Unlimited Parent

"It means a lot to me, the way you all were watching closely and paying attention to the
children individually. I feel like this program is beneficial to the children and their social
development in a lot of ways. As well as giving them additional support for their everyday
learning." - Janel, Scholars Unlimited Parent

Giving Activity

Mission

Scholars Unlimited's (formerly Summer Scholars) mission is to foster academic, social, and emotional growth for children living in metro Denver communities.

Background Statement

Scholars Unlimited has long and deep roots in our community. A volunteer from Park Hill and the school principal at Hallett Elementary began our first summer literacy program for 20 students in 1993. Based on the success of that program, and in recognition of the links between poverty, poor academic performance, and access to new experiences, our co-founders rallied Park Hill residents, educators, and community leaders, to rapidly expand the program. More than 500 students were served in a full-day summer program the following year in 1994.

The success of the summer program, coupled with increasing demand for high-quality after school programming, prompted the expansion to year-round in 2000. Today, Scholars Unlimited annually provides comprehensive summer and after-school programs to over 1,200 elementary students who are experiencing multiple challenges as a result of poverty.

Our Scholars After School and Summer Scholars programs support the development of the whole child, by providing intensive literacy intervention, engaging enrichment activities, recreational opportunities, and positive youth development practices that support social-emotional learning.

To accomplish our mission and to create a positive impact, we provide our comprehensive out-of-school programs to elementary-aged students living in metro Denver at no cost to families. Our programs support the development of the whole child by providing intensive literacy intervention, engaging enrichment activities, recreational opportunities, and positive youth development practices that support social-emotional learning. This approach is considered "best practice" for out-of-school-time learning programs.
