Four years ago, our mountain communities faced the reality of three teen suicides. We were made painfully aware of the mental health issues that young people face and the lack of life saving resources accessible to them. Resilience1220 was founded by a group of local therapists and community members. They worked tirelessly to break down barriers to neighborhood mental health resources and the social stigmas around seeking care. We provide confidential counseling services to youth ages 12 to 20 years old at no cost. Our service area includes Evergreen, Conifer, Bailey, Clear Creek, Gilpin, and Park counties.

Since May 1, 2019, we have served almost 2,000 youth and 250 parents and teachers in individual therapy. We have held close to 500 groups for youth, parents, grandparents, and educators reaching over 2,000 people. Our community outreach program has impacted over 6,000 community members. We have provided over 8,700 hours of counseling to youth in our community, thanks to the dedication and support of donors like you!

In an individual counseling session, a teen will learn how to build resiliency and put into practice coping strategies to face today’s challenges. Through a single group therapy session a youth will build community and connection with their peers. By sponsoring just one hour of counseling, you can save a teen’s life.

Testimonials

"The resiliency group literally saved my life. I really understood now that no matter what your body size, we all have similar difficulties." - Youth Client

"Resilience 1220 has been so valuable to our family. I am a mom to three precious teenagers, and getting my kids help with navigating all the changes and challenges that are part of coming of age in this place and time was difficult. I am eternally grateful that Resilience 1220 is committed to meeting the HUGE need of helping these young adults find hope and learn how to cope with whatever is going on inside their ever-changing selves and what life throws their way." - Client Parent

"Resilience 1220 removes barriers like cost of services, health insurance, transportation logistics and finding quality therapists so that ALL young adults in our rural mountain community can get help if it's needed. With Resilience 1220, my teenagers feel comfortable advocating for their mental health needs by knowing they can set their appointments, without Mom's help." - Client Parent

"At first I was hesitant to join the program, and though I've only had two sessions, I've felt that the strategies provided so far for coping as well as having a better state of mind have helped me drastically. I firmly believe that this is helping me overcome my insecurities and anxiety as well as provide a space where I feel respected and listened to. Thank you." - Youth Client

"My thirteen-year-old was thinking about suicide. Resilience 1220 was there for me when I was scared, didn't know what to do, and felt the risk of getting this wrong was abundantly high. I honestly didn't know how to help my child in their time of need, but Resilience1220 consistently showed up for him and helped us get him the right tools, support, and hope. It's a process with ups and downs, but it brings us both comfort knowing that Resilience 1220 is so close, and I 100% trust that they know how to help when I was lost." - Client Parent

Mission

Resilience1220 provides free counseling services to youth ages 12-20 in the mountain communities west of Denver. Through individual counseling, support groups and community outreach, we work to raise awareness of the social, emotional, and mental-health issues young adults face, and to provide the necessary life skills to create wellness and resiliency in their lives.

Our Vision is to empower young people and their families in our mountain communities to build resilience, strength, and the tools to master life's challenges.

Background Statement

We help young people build resilience for life. Through counseling, support groups, and community outreach, we work to raise awareness of the social, emotional, and mental health issues young adults face, and to provide the necessary life skills to create wellness and resiliency in their lives.

We do it to make a difference! We aim to address a public health crisis in our community, state and nation. Mental health issues are on the rise, particularly among youth living in mountain communities who do not have the necessary skills and outlets to cope or the resources to seek help.

We work directly in the communities in which we live. Due to accessibility, affordability and stigma, Resilience1220 offers free mental health services to the foothills west of Denver including western Jefferson County, Clear Creek County, southern Gilpin County, and eastern Park County.

We provide FREE, fast, professional services. Through our website, youth ages 12 to 20 can sign up to be matched with one of our 27 contracted therapists. Colorado House Bill (HB19-1120) states that youth in Colorado can seek mental health services without parental consent. This happens, but is rare.

Resilience1220 Professionals: Resilience1220 currently contracts with 27 mental health professionals. Specialties include art, yoga, trauma, mindfulness, wilderness, behavior modification and grief. Each therapist carries a caseload of 1-8 youth and many facilitate groups and give lectures as needed. Most of our counselors have lived in the mountain community for many years. We have two psychiatrists and PhD psychologists as advisors.

In 2022 alone, we reached 760 youth, 83 parents/guardians, and 21 teachers in individual therapy and held over 275 group sessions for both youth and adults. This is indicative of a program that is needed and will grow rapidly.
