Ralph Moody Elementary

At Ralph Moody Elementary School, students are engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in their classrooms. Teachers instill in their students a love of science and math while promoting a design and engineering mindset in all children.

One of the places that Ralph Moody students have been working in STEM has been in their time in Moody's Makerspace. Over the past two years, Ralph Moody students have learned how to use Computer Aided Design (CAD) to design and create their own objects in 3D. CAD is used by architects and engineers to create detailed 3D models, blueprints, plans, and prototypes - and is used in many career paths and industries including medical, aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, and fashion!

Our students have learned to think like engineers to design logos, buildings, and game pieces using a free CAD program called Tinkercad. After our students create their 3D designs in Tinkercad, they can use 3D printing to bring their designs to life in the real-world.

Last year, we raised funds to purchase a 3D printer for our Makerspace. It was a wonderful addition to our school and the children at Ralph Moody were able to see their CAD creations come to life!

However, having just one 3D printer made it difficult to run pieces for all grade levels at the same time. Therefore, this year, Ralph Moody PTO is raising money to purchase another 3D printer and related supplies for Ralph Moody's Makerspace. This will ensure that projects can be completed in a more timely manner so that all students can experience the joy of seeing their 3D designs in the real world.

Funds generated through the generous support of donors on Colorado Gives Day will be used to purchase a 3D printer, as well as filament for the printer and additional Makerspace supplies.

Ralph Moody Elementary is a true neighborhood school, and our PTO strives to support excellent learning opportunities for our students - like the opportunities that they can get in Ralph Moody's Makerspace!
