Family Support offers services led by licensed clinical staff for all military families, including veteran and active duty service members, their spouses, and children.
Families are invited to engage with our support staff to address their emergency and long-term needs for financial assistance, counseling referrals, and connection to services offered by collaborating partners.
Family Support Resource Weekends offer a relaxed and mission-focused environment with direct, in-person access to organizations that serve veterans.
We help families arrive at a therapeutic retreat feeling supported, ready for the work they will do to reconnect, and empowered with resources to sustain that progress long after they return home.
"Dan and I would like to thank you and all the Project Sanctuary staff and volunteers for all the support and kindness shown to us. We are experiencing health, emotional, marriage, and financial difficulties as well as social isolation resulting from the pandemic and health restrictions. We were granted a family retreat that gave us a much-needed opportunity for a beautiful resort trip with recreation, education, friendship, and counseling. After the retreat, we were also given support including kindness and caring plus referrals for community services, food assistance, access to couples communication training, and a short-term gym membership to promote community interaction and a gym facility for rehabilitation. We cannot begin to express our gratitude for the blessing Project Sanctuary has been to us".

Project Sanctuary hosts therapeutic retreats in six states across the country that are staffed and designed by the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS) and the licensed counselors and social workers on Project Sanctuary's staff.
Retreats are open to active duty service members and veterans of all branches of the military and all eras. All types of families, including single individuals and the LGBTQ+ community, are welcome at our retreats.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS) design and staff every Project Sanctuary retreat. Recreation therapy harnesses the healing power and laid-back atmosphere of outdoor recreation to help families break down walls and learn skills like conflict resolution and communication.
Retreats include financial planning classes led by First Command Financial Services, relationship reconnection workshops, a field guide to living with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), and a complementary Teen Group and Youth Program to ensure the entire family learns and heals as a unit.
Each retreat is staffed by at least two licensed professional counselors. Families have the opportunity for family, couples, and individual counseling throughout their retreat experience if they would like to participate.
Retreats are provided free of charge to all families.
"We have attended retreats from other organizations before, but the time allotted us to not only learn but enjoy each other's company has truly been special. The staff was incredibly supportive, and we were able to feel more confident in our relationships as a result of their support. Life isn't easy, but knowing we have new skills that will help us communicate as well as a deeper understanding of what each other is going through is the best feeling in the world. We are walking away with a greater love for one another and many resources to keep growing. Thank you, Project Sanctuary staff and volunteers who gave us tools, resources, and most importantly support to be a stronger family unit".
