The Penguin Plunge is an awesome event and part of Pagosa Springs Annual Winterfest. January 26, 2019 at 1:00 pm. marks the 10th anniversary of this event where locals plunge into the San Juan River by the visitor center to raise funds and awareness for their favorite non-profit. Our CRIA "Sinks Like a Rock Team" includes Ron Beckman (Chimney Rock day manager) and Mary Rose (Chimney Rock volunteer tour guide). Please support these hardy souls by making your pledge here or coming by the CRIA office.
It would mean a lot to CRIA AND these volunteers to have your support. After the wildfires of 2018, CRIA is in need of replenishing reserves that we needed to dip into. Your pledge will help support FREE interpretive programs like:
*The Life at Chimney Rock free two-day festival: family friendly hands-on activities that connect you to the people who lived here 1,000 years ago and a Native American Market Place. Free to the public.
*The CRIA lecture series: CRIA hosts 5 annual lectures featuring archaeology experts from around the southwest. Free and open to the public.
*School Group Week: free tours and hands-on activities for school groups from around the four corners a week prior to opening the monument in May. This includes CRIA's Jr. Archaeologist workbook program which is also free to the schools.
