Testimonials

We feel very fortunate to have found our way to your organization. I remember the phone call that I made and the informative conversation that I had with the Executive Director. It was comforting to hear that your organization was willing to accept our son without reservation. Seven years has since passed. It took about 5 months to find the perfect Host Home Provider. The Provider was accepting of our son and was willing to do whatever was needed to be of help to him. We now see a much calmer and happier person than he was and that has a lot to do with the consistency within the organization and in particular the Provider.

All of the Overture Staff are very supportive of the individuals in their care. The staff has an ability to "think outside the box" and to make each individual plan fit the person. There is no "one size fits all" within the Overture organization.

Our son has had multiple successes since he has been with Overture. He looks forward to doing the Bolder Boulder for the 4th year in a row. I would never have thought that it was possible for him to do it once. He attends many community functions with the Provider, does well at his day program, has many smiles, and is generally a happy young man.

We are very pleased with Overture, especially with the Provider. There is not a day that goes by, that we don't think about our son and thank the Overture organization for putting his needs first. Bless you all.

-Parents of a person in Overture's services

I have been a Host Home Provider for almost 16 years through Overture. Everyone at Overture continues to amaze me. They are professional, nurturing, and caring. They always think about the person who is receiving services first and foremost.

I never would have lasted this long contracting with a different agency. They set up providers for success. They allow providers to put all of their time and energy into client care. Moving forward, I can care for my individuals for a very long time into the future because of Overture. That stability and continuity of care which Overture fosters is a great benefit to the individuals in my home.

If someone you care about needs services that Overture provides, please check out the great people and programs at Overture. A higher quality of life and positive outcomes for the person you love are extremely likely.

Mission

All persons have the right to make choices and pursue opportunities to be the person they want to be: your life, your choice. Our mission is to support and respect the needs and desires of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through person-centered programs defined by choice and self direction.

Background Statement

In 1982, a group of parents of children with autism, along with the Colorado Chapter of the Autism Society of America, established Chestor House, Inc. as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Our organization began as a single group home housing eight people with intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Many of our first clients came from state institutions, lacking the basic skills to care for themselves. Chestor House was the first in Colorado to adopt a philosophy called "Gentle Teaching", a non-aversive therapeutic program to assist people with challenging behaviors function in a community setting. We have watched many of these people progress beyond all expectations, and this success has enabled our growth.

It had always been the belief at Chestor House that individualized services are best provided in a smaller setting, so the shift from larger group homes to smaller Host Homes began in the early 2000's. The philosophy of treating people with respect and kindness has not changed however it has shifted from "Gentle Teaching" to "Person Centered Teaching" which incorporates not only a teaching philosophy but a way to implement plans that focus on the desires of the person in services and their families. As the Group Homes began closing and people were moving into Host Homes the name Chestor House no longer reflected what we did as an organization. In December 2012 Chestor House became "Overture: Orchestrating a medley of possibilities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities". The name change from Chestor House to Overture allows for growth in many different directions and not be confused as a single group home. Today Overture provides services to over 75 clients serviced in our Residential and Day programs.
