This year, Youth on Record has committed over $115,000 to provide paid opportunities for young creatives.

Help us create economic opportunity for the next generation as they launch their careers in the arts.

  1. This year we offered a variety of paid opportunities for young creatives including: our paid Fellowship, Internship, and Podcasting Internship programs, performance opportunities at community events like Civic Center Eats and our annual Block Party, media coverage at community events, apprenticeship roles at the Underground Music Showcase and our Open Mic nights, and more!
  2. As the co-owners of the Underground Music Showcase, our team brings mission-aligned initiatives and Impact Days, a two-day artist conference, to the festival. 3. We recently hired a full-time Mental Health and Wellness Manager, combating the Youth Mental Health Crisis by offering supports to participants, referrals, and supporting a long-term strategy to further integrate mental health into all we do.
  4. We recently had our 10th annual Block Party, and you’ll definitely want to check out short features of several of the artists who performed here.
  5. Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray visited our studio, interviewed a few young creatives, and made a song with them. You can watch the video, produced by UCHealth, here.

Mission

Youth on Record empowers Colorado's underserved youth to achieve their academic, artistic, and personal best by employing local, professional artists as their educators.

Background Statement

Youth on Record (YOR) was founded in 2008 by local musician community organizers Flobots, in an effort to increase access to meaningful mentorship opportunities, increase graduation rates, increase academic success, increase social/emotional learning skills, and increase access to high-quality economic opportunities for youth via anti-oppression music programming.

Through a model partnership that brings together the local music community, public schools, the nation's leading housing authority, and the philanthropic sector, Youth on Record (YOR) is a powerful example of what's possible when musicians and nonprofit/public sector leaders embrace an entrepreneurial spirit and band together around a common cause. Our Youth Media Studio (YMS), the anchor tenant in a Denver Housing Authority award-winning redevelopment effort, is critical to our increasingly holistic approach to uplifting our region's most vulnerable youth through access to music. This focus on leveraging the arts to inspire at-risk young people to re-engage in their education and graduate, while providing advanced job skills and opportunities in the creative industries, makes us one-of-a-kind.
