Whiz Kids Tutoring

A nonprofit organization

Help us continue to serve over 450 students, start new sites, and build awareness to generate more volunteers so that we can reach more kids. Your gift helps invest in and change the lives of students as we continue offering FREE tutoring, mentoring, and spiritual nurture to kids ages 6-13.

When asked what the best part of Whiz Kids was, here is what tutors say:
"I got to see my student graduate from high school after 11 years together."
"...making a connection with my student"
"The kids!"
"My student telling me that his teacher said our work was making a difference."
"Getting to know and have a relationship with my student."
"Building a relationship with my student and her family."
"Seeing my student make progress."
"Knowing I was instrumental in making a difference."

Whiz Kids offers one-to-one tutoring, positive mentoring relationships and spiritual nurture to students below the literacy and poverty lines with the Spirit of Christ.

Background Statement

Whiz Kids is a faith-based, after-school, one-to-one tutoring program for students who are at-risk of school failure. We match students in elementary and middle school with trained tutors who meet each week to improve basic literacy and math skills, as well as to build positive one-to-one relationships. We partner closely with public schools in Denver, Jefferson County, Littleton, and Aurora.

Whiz Kids (WK) was formed in 1990 by a group of concerned urban and suburban ministry and business leaders wanting to bring resources to disadvantaged children to strengthen their academic potential and promote strong character. Our founders knew that helping children realize their full academic and life potential would be best accomplished through relationships with positive role models serving both as tutors and mentors. Whiz Kids began by partnering with urban churches that provided "safe haven" sites for tutoring sessions, public school administrators who identified students in need of the program, and suburban churches which provided committed volunteers. Whiz Kids continues to add program elements to better serve this population of youth.
