Testimonials

"After that trip, I can honestly say that suicide is off the table. I learned from the others that were there, that have invisible wounds like me, that I AM worth it, my service did count, that it's ok to use the resources available. Not abuse them but to use them to make my life better so that I can help others through the experience I have been through." ~Undisclosed Purple Heart Recipient

"This was a no-bull, care about the individual type program. It wasn't designed for some media stunt but actually understood to gather likeminded veterans doing things together in the outdoors. It took my mind off the want to drink heavily and surround me with other hardened dudes that went through and continue to go through the same experiences as myself. I'd recommend to all vets who legitimately struggle with the changes of after service life." ~Undisclosed Purple Heart Recipient

"This has been the best therapy based organizations out there today. Beats a civilian shrink, when surrounded by seasoned vets." - Jesse C., Purple Heart Warrior

Mission

To foster healing, purpose, and camaraderie for Purple Heart recipients through outdoor experiences and peer-to-peer support.

Background Statement

The Warrior Bonfire Program was born out of a simple, powerful idea: real healing happens around the fire. After a conversation with Purple Heart veteran SFC (Ret.) Greg Williams—who shared that time with fellow warriors around a bonfire was more therapeutic than any counseling session—founder Dan Fordice knew what he had to do: “We will provide the bonfire.”

With the help of his brother Hunter, also a veteran, Dan began organizing small gatherings that offered connection, camaraderie, and purpose for those who had been wounded in service. What started with an American Flag Retirement ceremony on the banks of the Mississippi River in 2012 grew into a national nonprofit serving hundreds of Purple Heart veterans each year.

These retreats not only support warriors in healing from physical and emotional wounds, but also help bridge the civilian-military divide, giving communities a meaningful way to connect, understand, and serve.
