The Learning Council is an educational hub for the North Fork Valley, building community through collaboration with other nonprofits, businesses, government agencies, and individuals, to offer life-enhancing resources to everyone.
Current Fundraising Focus: Holding the Line for Belonging in Challenging Times
Dear friends,
We want to speak with you honestly about the moment we’re in.
Under the current federal administration, policies that support Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives are being rolled back. These changes make it harder for organizations like The Learning Council to receive funding without compromising our deepest values.
We will not do that.
TLC will not trade our mission of inclusion, education, and community care for compliance with regressive mandates.
This choice, made from conviction, means we are losing a portion of our federal support. But it also opens the door to something more powerful: a future built on community-powered independence.
Our Plan: Funding Our Values, Not Compliance
TLC’s new fundraising roadmap is rooted in clarity and courage. We are shifting from federal dependency to a model sustained entirely by you, our community, our donors, and our allies.
Here’s how we’ll do it:
1. “Independent by Design”
We’re launching a grassroots campaign to replace the $12,000 federal grant we’ve turned down.
Our goal: 120 donors giving $100 each.
Every contribution is a declaration of freedom. Proof that our values are not for sale. See Campaign below.
2. “The Art of Inclusion Fund”
This new fund supports JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) -centered programs in arts, food, and education. Ensuring that TLC remains a safe, creative, and welcoming home for all. See Campaign below.
3. "ReMember Us All" Cultural Reparation & Repair
A growing collaboration devoted to cultivating Hearth Garden Sanctuaries — equitable, culturally grounded outdoor spaces created in partnership with Indigenous and rural communities.
We are currently joining in the circle to listen, learn, and co-create — nurturing a shared vision and the friendships capable of shaping safe and sacred spaces for cultural exchange, art, learning, celebration, and Feasts of ReMembrance.
We are actively cultivating relationships with the Ute Tribes who once tended the land where TLC stands, with hopes of healing and cultivating beauty together once again.
Why Funding Matters Right Now
TLC isn’t just another nonprofit, it’s a living space of belonging in rural Colorado.
We are:
A frontline defender of inclusion and equity in the North Fork Valley.
A cultural anchor for immigrant, Indigenous, LGBTQIA2S+, and BIPOC neighbors.
A source of nourishment and education for all who walk through our doors.
If we stay strong, we remain a beacon for what’s possible: a community that welcomes everyone.
How You Can Help:
You can make an immediate impact by giving today and helping spread the word.
Every gift, no matter the size, strengthens our independence and keeps TLC free to include everyone.
Together, we can show that even in difficult times, our community will not back down from compassion, inclusion, and justice.
With deep gratitude and solidarity,
The Learning Council Team
Enriching community through education, art, advocacy, food, agriculture and wellness for all.
Currently, TLC provides educational opportunities to people of all ages and abilities with a focus on offering nourishment to the community through food, music, arts, agriculture, wellness, and stewarding the environment. TLC offers classes as a Gift to our community. The Gift model allows all who are interested to participate without financial restrictions and also the opportunity for community members to share their gifts and give back.
The Learning Council is invested in building on the values of loving kindness, compassion, strength in unity, diversity, care for our rural and natural environment, connection, harmony, a thriving local economy, maintaining traditions and heritage, freedom, independence and accountability.
TLC is a vibrant member of our valley's Creative District, contributing to the arts and culture of our community.
TLC uplifts inclusivity, equity and diversity in our region, creating a welcoming, safe educational space for everyone to learn and grow.
