1) From a Skating Club parent: "The Steamboat Skating Club is built on a foundation that fosters self esteem and confidence in all participants in a safe and positive atmosphere. As a parent, I have not experienced this strong of a commitment to the health of my children in any other extracurricular program. It is truly a special, one of a kind program, unmatched in my opinion."
2) From a Skating Club mom and dad: "Our daughter has found her passion, confidence, and dearest friends through the skating club, for which we are hugely grateful. We love that she's learning courage, grit, and resilience in literally having to get up when she falls."
3) From a Skating Club skater: "In the Skating Club, I get to be myself, work hard, and learn new things with my friends. Everyone is so supportive. I have a family there."

Background Statement

• The Steamboat Skating Club provides youth development programs for children and young adults ages 5 - 18 throughout the Yampa Valley through the discipline of figure skating and performance arts.

• The current "Steamboat Skating Club" was founded in 1994 as the"Steamboat Springs Figure Skating Club."

• Membership levels have varied from upwards of 60 skaters in the 1990s to a low of 10 skaters in 2013 during club leadership changes.

• Over the last seven years, a series of leadership teams have worked tirelessly to increase club membership and coaching staff commitment, including the addition of our first Skating Director in 2017.

• The Skating Club has produced two annual spring Theater On Ice shows for our community including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2018 and Mary Poppins on Ice in 2019. The 2020 show was The Little Mermaid, but was unfortunately postponed due to COVID-19; we plan to reschedule it when conditions and regulations allow.

• Our community has embraced the energy and excitement that our Skating Director has brought to the club and club membership has increased over 500% in the last seven years.

• Unfortunately the 2020 pandemic has meant big changes for our club, as our Skating Director of three years moved away. The leadership team is restructuring to continue to serve our skaters in the best way possible, given the current COVID restrictions.
