We are proud of our academic excellence while maintaining our mission to align our Montessori curriculum.

Testimonials

Steamboat Montessori's vision is to create an educational community that is rooted in kindness and belonging, sparked by joy, and relentless in the pursuit to learn and grow together as global citizens. The hallmarks of this include multi-age classrooms, teacher as a guide, student choice in lessons, physical manipulatives, peace education and group learning.  Parents, community, student, and teacher partnerships are essential to the growth of all community members.

Mission

Our mission is to honor each child as we fan the flame of intellectual curiosity through a prepared and peaceful Montessori environment. We offer a preK-6 education rooted in the Montessori philosophy allowing students from the Yampa Valley a tuition-free, public school of choice. Steamboat Montessori maintains a low teacher-student ratio of 1:14 while providing essential educational opportunities for all students.

Steamboat Montessori nurtures order, concentration, and independence. Intentional classroom design, materials, and daily routines support the student's emerging “self-regulation” (the ability to educate one's self, and to think about what one is learning), in preschoolers through adolescents. Our focus is on the development of the whole child ensuring the social, emotions, physical and intellectual growth of students.

Background Statement

Founded in 2016, Steamboat Montessori is the school of choice for northwest Colorado. We are the only public/tuition-free elementary Montessori school in the region, drawing students grades K-6 from Milner, Hayden, Craig, Clark, Yampa, and Oak Creek; approximately 26% of our student population. Our preschool program accepts Universal Preschool to support low tuition rates.

The Montessori environment promotes movement, freedom of choice, intrinsic motivation and a child-centered pace of learning while maintaining a high level of academic excellence as recognized by our recent and continued identification as a John Irwin School of Distinction.
