STAR Institute is impacting quality of life by developing and promoting best practices for sensory health and wellness through treatment, research, and education.

STAR Institute is the international leader for research, treatment, and education related to sensory integration and processing based in Centennial, CO. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we are dedicated to improving mainstream awareness of sensory health and to providing life-changing support and resources for individuals and families across the lifespan. STAR Institute supports all areas of sensory health including mental health, school success, child development, parenting, relationships, and vocational success. For some, disordered sensory processing profoundly impacts daily functioning. However, many differences in sensory processing do not need to be disabling. We believe everyone should have access to high-quality support, resources, and treatment for sensory health.

Making the Invisible Visible: Illuminating the Hidden World of Our Senses

So much of life happens beneath the surface — the unseen rhythms, sensations, and emotions that shape how we move, feel, and belong. For many neurodivergent individuals, these invisible sensory experiences can mean the difference between calm and chaos, safety and overwhelm, being included or being misunderstood.

At STAR Institute, we shine a light on what others can’t see. We reveal the sensory stories that define how each person experiences the world — and we help children, teens, and adults transform daily struggle into strength. Through world-class therapy, education, and community programs, we create pathways to understanding, belonging, and hope.

But the need is urgent.

Hundreds of individuals and families are waiting for services. Families are searching for answers. Therapists and educators across the country are seeking high-quality training to better support the neurodivergent individuals in their care.

Your gift helps make the unseen seen — bringing clarity, connection, and life-changing support to the people who need it most.

Your Donation Makes an Immediate Impact

Your gift directly supports children, teens, and adults through…

  • Life-changing sensory therapy, helping individuals feel safe in their bodies and confident in daily life

  • Access to care, reducing financial barriers for families seeking support

  • Shorter wait times, so individuals in crisis can receive timely services

  • Specialized evaluations, giving families the answers and direction they’ve been searching for

Your gift also expands STAR’s reach by training clinicians around the world.

  • Specialized education in sensory processing and neurodiversity-affirming care, equipping professionals with the skills to understand and support sensory differences

  • Mentorship and advanced professional development, strengthening and inspiring the next generation of sensory-informed clinicians

  • Access to evidence-based tools, resources, and research, ensuring high-quality, individualized care extends far beyond STAR’s walls

  • A growing network of trained providers, increasing capacity and reducing barriers to sensory-informed support in communities everywhere

Why Your Support Matters Now

When you give to STAR, you’re not just funding a program — you’re helping a person finally feel understood. You’re empowering a clinician to better support their clients. You’re creating a world where a child can step into school with confidence, an adult can navigate their workplace without fear, and families can breathe easier knowing someone truly sees their story.

You’re helping us make the invisible visible — so every sense, every story, and every person can be understood.

Mission

STAR Institute's mission to impact quality of life by developing and promoting best practices for sensory health and wellness through treatment, education, and research.

- Generating research that helps us understand sensory processing,

- Therapy services that pioneer best-practice interventions throughout the lifespan, and

- Education that shares what we know with practitioners, educators, advocates and parents.

Background Statement

Founded by Dr. Lucy J. Miller, STAR Institute for Sensory Processing was formed in 2016 from two merged organizations SPD Foundation and STAR Center. STAR Institute provides premier treatment, education, and research for children, adolescents, and adults with disordered sensory processing.

Today, both entities work as one. Now known as STAR Institute, we provide exceptional treatment programs, continue the lead in research related to sensory processing and integration, and offer an array of public and professional services including the most comprehensive education opportunities online and in person, and an extremely informative website.
