If Shannon's Hope didn't exist, my pregnancy and ultimately my baby would have been a burden rather than a blessing.
The instability of my living situation, lack of moral support and insufficiency of funds would have caused so much stress that it would have been detrimental to my baby and me. In fact, without Shannon's Hope, I'm afraid I may not have been able to keep my beautiful baby boy, which would have devastated me for life. Shannon's Hope has provided me a safe, stable, comfortable place to begin my little family.
Shannon's Hope has provided understanding and forgiveness to my unpredictable mood swings and personal situation and equip me to be a good mom.
Shannon's Hope is abundantly generous in providing cloths and baby items so I am lacking in nothing. Shannon's Hope also provided the fantastic resource of Doulas so that I had all the support I needed during and after labor.

Mission: Shannon's Hope is a residence providing a safe community for pregnant and postpartum women of child-bearing age.
We complete this mission through:
--Housing and support through our residential home
--Referrals to community resources or to adoption agencies which may be helpful to them as a single or relinquishing parent, enabling them re-entry into life.
--Guidance to initiate a "plan" for their future to work towards, both during and after their pregnancy.
--Foster a spirit of independence for themselves and also pass on to their children the same spirit, enabling many to break dependent roles.
--Maintain at all times, through and within the facility of Shannon's Hope, an atmosphere and practice of faith, hope and love.
Leslie Pottebaum, founded Shannon's Hope nearly 40 years ago, in 1982 after a personal tragedy to provide a refuge for homeless pregnant women and to be a voice for the unborn. Over the years Shannon's Hope has taken in pregnant women of all ages, all walks of faith, in all situations of life including the more "hard core" cases referred by other women's shelters not equipped or willing to handle their extra challenges.
One-third of the women are victims of domestic violence, one- third are substance abusers, and the other third are homeless. Shannon's Hope is privately funded through donations. It's a Christian home with courses such as parenting, life skills, nutrition, and Bible study.
