Senior Housing Options

A nonprofit organization

Senior Housing Options (SHO) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that serves low and moderate income older adults & adults with disabilities. We currently own and/or manage 5 Assisted Living facilities and 6 affordable housing communities for almost 500 residents in Colorado.

Watching television, listening to the news, or reading the newspaper we can get the feeling that the world is going sour on us, that good is outweighed by bad. My family and I have just had an experience that helps us know good people are, indeed, among us and doing good things. Recently my mother passed away. The last place she called home was Mesa Vista Assisted Living in Parachute. My brother and I were able to relax and not worry about her well-being while she lived at Mesa Vista. The directors and staff at Mesa Vista treated my aging, sometimes cranky (OK, sometimes very cranky) mother with respect. She was able to keep her dignity during a time what was very hard for her, during a time when she was losing control of most things in her life. It took a little time, but they won her over, and she felt peace in the last home she had.
When her time came to move along, the staff treated my family with the same kindness they had shown my mother. It is beyond refreshing to have experienced the joy, love, concern and care given by the people who work at Mesa Vista Assisted Living.
I highly encourage anyone who has an aging parent that needs a home to go and visit. Be prepared for something the world needs more of--old, fashioned, tender care.

Our Mission is to provide residential communities and caring services to enrich the lives of older adults in Colorado.

Our Vision is that Colorado's older adults live and thrive in a safe, caring community regardless of their financial means.

Background Statement

In 1979, church leaders, citizens, and government officials recognized that Denver's downtown urban renewal was resulting in the displacement of low-income seniors and disabled residents from hotels and boarding homes. To address the problem and provide safe and affordable housing Senior Housing Options was created.

Over the past 29 years, SHO has grown to 10 residences throughout Colorado, from rural areas to the lowest income areas of metro Denver. Since its inception, SHO has provided housing and supportive services to people in need, many of whom, without SHO, would likely have nowhere to go. In fact, SHO is home to its 360+ low-income older adults, disabled and chronically mentally ill adults statewide.

SHO's mission is simple and powerful: to provide and promote quality affordable housing and services in a caring environment for older adults in Colorado.

SHO has two types of residences: assisted living residences and affordable (low-income) apartments. Services provided in the residences all are designed to allow residents to maintain independence, enjoy life, and challenge them to do things they might have not thought possible. Assisted living residents receive a full range of supportive services and all residents can be involved in a variety of social and recreational activities designed to educate them and help maintain a connection to the community. For example, residents at Cinnamon Park are involved in an integrated health and wellness program. Through a substantial education effort with Longmont United Hospital, residents examine the role that they play in improving their own health and participate in nutritional and exercise programs
