Testimonials

At Scholars Unlimited, Together We Rise isn’t just a theme,  it’s a lived experience. Every day, our scholars, families, and staff show us what it looks like when a community lifts one another up through belonging, joy, and opportunity.

“Scholars Unlimited became my safe haven, my sanctuary. It was a place where I was not judged for my past, my inability to be able to read or my circumstances. Scholars Unlimited was a community that welcomed me with open arms, providing me with a nurturing environment where I could grow academically, socially, and emotionally.”— Aliyanna, Scholars Unlimited Alumna

“They are able to communicate with me instead of shutting down and staying quiet. They can tell me when something is wrong or when they've done something they weren't supposed to.”— Scholars Unlimited Parent

“We have a lot of kids who express that in their traditional schooling, they often feel overlooked and that they’re getting left behind. I like to think of us as a bridge or a continuation of care where we can really support the work that teachers and schools are already doing.”— Yaquelin Avitia Orozco, Scholars Unlimited Staff

These lived experiences illuminate the heart of Scholars Unlimited: a place where belonging fuels confidence, where joy fuels learning, and where community fuels possibility. Our programs intentionally cultivate spaces where young people feel seen, valued, and empowered to rise to their full potential.

On Colorado Gives Day, your generosity ensures that more scholars can experience this life-changing community. When our scholars rise, we all rise - together.

Giving Activity

Mission

Scholars Unlimited's (formerly Summer Scholars) mission is to foster academic, social, and emotional growth for children living in metro Denver communities.

Background Statement

Scholars Unlimited has long and deep roots in our community. A volunteer from Park Hill and the school principal at Hallett Elementary began our first summer literacy program for 20 students in 1993. Based on the success of that program, and in recognition of the links between poverty, poor academic performance, and access to new experiences, our co-founders rallied Park Hill residents, educators, and community leaders, to rapidly expand the program. More than 500 students were served in a full-day summer program the following year in 1994.

The success of the summer program, coupled with increasing demand for high-quality after school programming, prompted the expansion to year-round in 2000. Today, Scholars Unlimited annually provides comprehensive summer and after-school programs to over 1,200 elementary students who are experiencing multiple challenges as a result of poverty.

Our Scholars After School and Summer Scholars programs support the development of the whole child, by providing intensive literacy intervention, engaging enrichment activities, recreational opportunities, and positive youth development practices that support social-emotional learning.

To accomplish our mission and to create a positive impact, we provide our comprehensive out-of-school programs to elementary-aged students living in metro Denver at no cost to families. Our programs support the development of the whole child by providing intensive literacy intervention, engaging enrichment activities, recreational opportunities, and positive youth development practices that support social-emotional learning. This approach is considered "best practice" for out-of-school-time learning programs.
