The Learning Zone at Real Life Colorado is the only program of its kind in Colorado, focusing on teaching K-8 students with complex communication needs to communicate and participate using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. TLZ is entering its third year and working to expand our program!

The Learning Zone program at Real Life Colorado is the only one of its kind in Colorado, focusing on teaching students with complex communication needs (CCN) to communicate and participate using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. The program provides a small classroom learning environment, with specialized literacy, writing, math and communication instruction. The program has the ability to shift and adapt to the specific needs of each unique child providing an individualized learning environment which was previously unachievable for these students in their previous school settings. Our staff are highly proficient in utilizing and teaching with AAC to provide best practice instruction to our unique communicators. We include extracurriculars such as science, STEM, art, and current events. This very special population of students struggled to succeed in prior settings. Per parent reports these students are thriving for the first time in their school careers. At RLC we seek to meet the children where they are and provide them with relevant and engaging content. Due to the efficiency of instruction, class times are shorter, and students are taught in small groups, which enables them to maintain focus and stamina throughout each core rotation. Our smaller classroom size means that teachers can equally spend time with each student.
