A nonprofit organization

Nederland Area Historical Society focuses on the preservation of Nederland history by running and maintaining the 1905 Gillaspie House Museum, running and maintaining the century-old historic Bucyrus 50b Steam Shovel, supporting the Nederland Cemetery, helping to restore and preserve the Caribou Cemetery, the Ice house and more. We are also in the midst of a digital preservation project to record, preserve, and digitize our physical documents, photos, and artifact collection.

Mission

The mission of the Nederland Area Historical Society is to collect, preserve and exhibit documents, artifacts and other records of Nederland area history for the education and enjoyment of the public.

Background Statement

The Nederland Area Historical Society serves the Nederland and Peak To Peak Area. The population of Nederland is approximately 1,500 but the surrounding area is home to several thousand more people. The NAHS maintains The Gillaspie House Museum, a century old steam shovel and a document and archive collection. It is working to digitize and archive the document collection. It assists with the preservation of the Nederland and Caribou cemeteries. It writes stories and articles to help preserve local history and provide educational opportunities for the local community and beyond. It hosts events that aim to educate and entertain regarding local history.
