Mission

The Mountain States Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America’s mission is to empower veterans living with spinal cord injuries and diseases to live with dignity, purpose and connection.

Background Statement

The Mountain States Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America (MSCPVA) has served veterans living with spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis (MS), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) since 1955. As one of 33 chapters of Paralyzed Veterans of America, we proudly serve 564 members across Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and New Mexico, ensuring they receive high-quality healthcare, strong civil rights protections, and opportunities to live with dignity and purpose. We strengthen the lives of veterans through advocacy, adaptive sports, Quality of Life and Education Grants, peer mentoring, and year-round community engagement. Our mission-driven programs help veterans build independence, connection, and resilience every day.

We focus on five core areas:

• Advocacy

• Sports and recreation

• Quality of Life Grants and education

• Peer support and mentoring

• Member engagement and outreach.

We uphold a tradition of patriotism and service by ensuring no veteran in our region faces the challenges of paralysis alone. In the last fiscal year, our members contributed 3,000 volunteer hours, and we awarded $20,000 in grants that supported education, accessibility, and essential quality-of-life needs. We expanded partnerships with the Department of Veterans Affairs Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Centers, Craig Hospital, and leading disability-service organizations to deepen our impact and reach. Through collaboration, accountability, and unwavering commitment, we continue to build a community where every veteran we serve can thrive.
