Testimonials

"The meals are very good, and the visit with the drivers might be the best. Everyone we deal with there is a pleasure!" - Meal Delivery Client

"Enormous gratitude to volunteers who deliver our meals in all types of weather. I appreciate their devotion and timely delivery of nutritious meals to my most, most times it's the highlight of my day. This program allows many persons like myself on fixed incomes to be able to afford other luxuries, like medicine."
- Meal Delivery Client

“Sometimes I feel so alone in this world. Everyone is so friendly at Meals on Wheels, and they ask me how I’m doing. I love your program. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” - Mary, Meal Delivery Client

“Your service is so important for us getting on in years or recovering from illness/surgery. The meals came to us at a time when we really needed it. All of the volunteer drivers are on a first name basis with our cat, who is an escape artist. Meals on Wheels Boulder does a wonderful job.”  - Carol, Project Homecoming Client and Donor

“I’ve been a recipient of Meals on Wheels for 2 months. It has been a godsend. I was eating microwave dinners and now, getting Meals on Wheels of Boulder meals, the quality and healthfulness of my meals have improved. I am so pleased with your service.”  - William, Meal Delivery Client

"The meals are wonderful. I don't cook anymore, I can't. They're keeping me alive." – Nancy, Meals Delivery Client

"I receive Meals on Wheels because my family felt I was not eating a healthy diet, and I have contributed to Meals on Wheels for many years. I really like visiting with the volunteer delivery people and the variety of the meals. I appreciate the thoughtfulness in being aware of my dietary needs as well." – Martha, Meal Delivery Client

"Because of Meals on Wheels of Boulder and some of the other help she received, my mom was able to be in her own home until her final illness. To all the wonderful Meals on Wheels of Boulder volunteers - you are the face and life blood of the organization - it could not be done without you. Thank you for your time, the use of your vehicle, and paying for gas and maintenance to serve others. Mom so often commented on the kindness of those delivering her meals. The work that all the staff and volunteers performs has a huge, direct and positive impact on people's lives. Thank you all so much." - Donna, Donor

I feel it is important to give back to community, and I have my kids helping drive/deliver with me. I believe in the mission of Meals on Wheels of Boulder, and I am doing this in honor of my Dad who is a volunteer in Michigan. -Jane, Volunteer

Giving Activity

Mission

The mission of Meals on Wheels of Boulder is to provide nutritious meals and a daily well-being check to Boulder residents, regardless of age or income.

Background Statement

In 1969, the Boulder Soroptomist Club completed a door-to-door survey to determine the needs of the elderly. Two needs were identified: nursing care in the home and delivery of a hot meal to those confined to their homes. In Sept. 1969, a steering committee of concerned citizens met to start a home delivered meal program. In December that year, Meals on Wheels of Boulder delivered its first meals to 15 clients. On December 8th, 2019, we celebrated our 50th anniversary, having provided uninterrupted service delivering more than 2.2 million meals in 50 years!

Since that modest beginning, we have continually evolved to meet the changing needs of our clients: we've added and adjusted special diets based on scientific findings, modified our management-delivery systems, and developed new products and services.

We also have a program that was adopted county wide and beyond, Project Homecoming. This program is available to anyone regardless of age or income who is transitioning from hospital to home. We deliver 5 free nutritious meals to help people concentrate on healing.

Currently, we have delivered and served over 2.9+ million meals to date!
