Testimonials

"Intercambio's focus on cross-cultural exchange through language education serves as an inspiring example for other communities as they work toward better cross -cultural understanding." - Ken Salazar, Former Secretary of the Interior

"Knowing English opened a lot of doors for me, not just with my daughter but in the school. I feel more confident talking with the parents, talking with the principal, with everybody. It feels so good to talk to anyone." - Roxana Cordova, Former Intercambio Student

"It's just so gratifying to see someone move up at work, or go somewhere they were afraid to go before, all because of improved English confidence," - Carol Dwyer, Intercambio Volunteer Teacher

Mission

Intercambio exists to bring English learners and community volunteers together in language classes and gatherings to build skills, confidence, and life-changing connections.

We do this by creating programs, trainings, and curriculum where all participants learn from each other's experiences and perspectives. We do these in person and online, locally and nationally.

Background Statement

Intercambio’s model for volunteer-taught adult English language learning provides a welcoming environment that builds confidence and connections between teachers and students.

In 2000, Intercambio de Comunidades was founded to help Spanish-speaking immigrants in Boulder County learn English and improve their families' quality of life. In 2005, Intercambio broadened to focus on all immigrant communities. In 2011, we changed our name to Intercambio Uniting Communities to better reflect our diverse student population.

Over the last two decades, the organization has created programs, trainings, and curriculum where all participants learn from each other’s experiences and perspectives and has supported the mutual learning of over 15,000 immigrants and volunteers.
