Our mission is to provide compassionate, faith-driven healthcare that heals the mind, body, and soul. Background Statement
From the beginning, Inner City Health (ICH) began as an idea shared by a husband and wife team: Jan Williams, a counselor, and Dr. Bob Williams, who Dr. Duane Claassen later joined. Founded in 1983, ICH reflected their Christian faith and a sense of needing to do more to serve the underserved based on their experiences gained from ministry and medical missions.
Together, they created a clinic in Denver's historic Five Points, a community with the most need: the highest infant mortality rate, lowest income level, and least access to affordable health care.
Foreshadowing modern trends in integrated medicine, ICH was one of the earliest providers in the region to recognize the critical need to integrate dental and mental health into medical care.
Blessed by the community's support and responsible fiscal practices, ICH grew from 2,000 annual patient visits in 1983 to a full-fledged family health center with multiple programs, integrated services, and Medicaid enrollment. We now support over 30,000 patient visits annually and are a community hub for other nonprofits to meet and serve in the community.
In 2009, the health center moved from Five Points to a larger facility at 3800 York Street, and today, we're expanding to serve more people in our 42nd year in Denver to continue our mission to serve those most in need with respect and compassion.
