Background Statement
Since 1974, The Greenway Foundation has transformed the South Platte River from a neglected waterway into Denver’s heartbeat - a place for nature, recreation, and community.
We’ve built over 100 miles of trails, created 20+ parks and natural areas, improved river health, and connected more than 70,000 kids to hands-on river education through our SPREE program. Our youth employment and stewardship projects continue to shape the next generation of environmental leaders.
Today, we’re expanding access to the river, restoring habitats, and bringing people together through education, cleanups, and community events - so every Denverite can experience the river that runs through us all.
