Testimonials

Jeff and Darell are prime examples of recent participants in Goodwill's
LIFT IT Training and AgrAbility programs. As a young boy, Jeff showed
a great fascination and natural talent for information technology/IT and
after graduating from high school he decided to further his passion and
enroll in a technical school. Unfortunately, that passion quickly faded
due to the school's impersonal and formal structure. Jeff eventually
dropped out of class and abandoned his dreams of becoming an IT
professional.

At the age of 30, Jeff was tens of thousands of dollars in debt, living
paycheck-to-paycheck with no ambitions or career opportunities in sight.
Thankfully, Jeff was introduced to Goodwill of Colorado's IT Training
program and enthusiastically plugged back into his passion-graduating
with three professional certifications and securing a well-paying and
rewarding job. Jeff overcame his barriers to employment and found
success … and it started with you!

In 2010, Darell was working as a prison guard when he sustained severe
injuries while restraining an inmate, leaving him partially disabled and
ending his career. Darell's injuries also impacted his second job and other
means of income-running a ranch and horse hotel. Thanks to the
generous support of individuals like you, Darell was referred to Goodwill's
AgrAbility program where he received a wide range of resources, including
hands-on support and adaptive equipment, so that he could continue
working in the agriculture field.

Since his introduction to Goodwill's AgrAbility program, Darell has been
able to obtain a utility task vehicle addressing his mobility issues, along
with a powered wheelbarrow and other essential tools of the trade assisting
him with his day-to-day work functions. Darell is now able to work and
live more independently, and it started with you!

Mission

Goodwill of Colorado transforms people's lives.

Background Statement

Goodwill of Colorado was founded in 1918. Goodwill is widely known for its retail stores, but Goodwill also provides training and employment opportunities for thousands of Coloradans in need each year. For nearly 100 years, Goodwill has provided training and employment opportunities to at-risk youth, unemployed/underemployed families and adults with developmental disabilities across the entire state of Colorado. Goodwill is a unique nonprofit organization, employing nearly 3,000 individuals and practicing a triple bottom line: people, planet, and community.

Goodwill of Colorado offers programs through a North Campus, which is located in the Denver metro area, and a South Campus, which is located in Colorado Springs. Although each campus offers different programs, all are focused on workforce development and promoting economic independence and self-sufficiency for vulnerable communities. Goodwill's workforce development programs differ from other similar organizations due to the scope of services provided to participants and that the workforce development programming targets both youth and adults. The primary organizational goal of Goodwill is to provide tangible skills to at-risk youth and low-income and disabled adults to support them in securing employment, obtaining independence and developing dignity and hope. Goodwill's vision is for every person in our community to live to his or her true potential. Goodwill utilizes education, employment and empowerment to foster economic independence and self-sufficiency for individuals facing barriers to employment.
