The mission of CAA is to preserve the agricultural heritage of the Yampa Valley by initiating, supporting and encouraging actions, programs and policies that mutually benefit and connect agricultural producers and consumers.
The Yampa Valley is a special place with a rich history of agriculture, dating from the 1870s, with many of the ranches still in continuing family ownership. There is also an economic base of coal mining with a heritage of gold and silver mining. Located in Northwest Colorado, the area boasts abundant scenery and wildlife that provides a strong recreational economy. Lastly an integral part of the mix is tourism, which provides a strong resort and service economy. All of these segments are dependent upon each other for economic opportunities and have a common desire to build on strengths while maintaining the environmental resources, authentic Western culture and agricultural heritage.
CAA was established in 1999 in response to concerns over the loss of agriculture and the community's desire to ensure ongoing support, allowing agriculture to remain active and a vital part of the area for generations to come. We continue to rise to the challenge of coordinating the continual need to keep agricultural issues relevant in Northwest Colorado.
