Colorado Police Canine Association

A nonprofit organization

The CPCA works to ensure the safety for K9's, their working partners, and communities they serve. The CPCA fundraises for the Health & Care fund that helps with the cost of healthcare and other needs for retired K9s.

Testimonials

"Joining CPCA was the best thing I've done for myself and my partner K9 Zan. CPCA training brings a set of ethics and standards to every handler to build the best K9 teams in the industry with training by top instructors from across Colorado. K9 Zan and I have gained a larger support system than what our organization could provide. We have lots of options for continued professional development and additional certifications because of the hard work and commitment CPCA gives to all its members and our profession." Krista Dimock, Littleton Police Department

"K9 Boo served the Lakewood Police Department, West Metro Drug Task Force and the DEA's Strike Force from 2008-2016. When a K9 retires, most police departments transfer ownership to the handler, who also takes full responsibility for the K9's care and medical bills. The CPCA K9 Health and Care Fund helped tremendously and led to a better quality of life for K9 Boo as she deserved after her years of service." Tom Hayes, Lakewood Police Department

Mission

The mission of the Colorado Police Canine Association (CPCA) is to establish professional standards for K9 handlers in the State of Colorado, provide training and certifications for work in law enforcement.

Background Statement

In 2003 a group of K9 handlers realized there was a need to create a professional organization to set the standards for police service dogs and handlers in the State of Colorado. Representing county and local law enforcement agencies from across the front range, this small group of volunteers created the non-profit organization CPCA, wrote standards that were approved by the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police and Colorado Police Academy, and began holding professional development and training sessions for K9's and their working partners across the state.
