We're building women's economic, social, and cultural capital because powerful women build healthy families and thriving communities.
We partner with Black women, women of color, girls, and families to create lasting change across generations. Through culturally relevant programming in education, workforce development, reentry support, and community building, CHIC recognizes that when women have access to opportunities and resources, entire families and communities thrive
Testimonials
"CHIC is the class that I use for my everyday life. We have a deep relationship with each other. We learn about respect for ourselves and others, and also how to deal with real life situations. We even learn about history. We learn to empower each other as African American women and be better." CHIC student, East HS
"It[CHIC Programs have] helped me become a better person and grow true self confidence and self love." CHIC student
"This program was a saving grace for me. The opportunity to learn new skills and new purpose is something I've been looking for. I never knew about mindfulness, and now I know how important it is and how to use it more in my life. Everybody I have met while being in this program have made me feel loved and see more in me than I saw in myself."CHIC client, Pre Apprenticeship Cohort

Mission
Our mission is to build women's economic, social, and cultural capital because powerful women build healthy families and thriving communities.
Background Statement
Collaborative Healing Initiative within Communities (CHIC) helps families break intergenerational cycles of poverty. Sade Cooper and Hilari Smith founded CHIC in 2017 to address injustices faced by Denver's women of color. As women of color, CHIC's founders recognized that too few service providers understood women of color's unique experiences, addressed their intersectional challenges, or built their strengths and assets. CHIC was founded to fill these gaps by offering culturally-relevant, whole-family, female-focused services grounded in research on pathways to economic mobility (Butler, Beach, and Winfree, 2008) and on resilience and positive development for girls of color (Smith-Evans et.al, 2014). Today, CHIC operates four programs; CHIC Education programs-"Impact Youth," CHIC Workforce programs- "Women at Work", CHIC Community programs-"Community in Action", and CHIC Reentry programs. Since our founding, CHIC has touched the lives of over 1,000 members of our community, through our programs, community convenings, and direct aid. CHIC focuses services in Northeast Denver and North Aurora, which demonstrate high disparities for women and children of color.
