Background Statement
On November 1, 2007, the Gunnison Area Community Foundation (GACF) and the Crested Butte Community Foundation (CBCF) announced that they would unite to form the Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley. The merged foundation continues to carry out the work begun by two separate foundations, and combined, facilitates a greater understanding and more effective response to local concerns and needs. The union resulted in greater financial resources, a more efficient nonprofit sector, a stronger social fabric and a community culture of philanthropy. We believe that we are living our vision.
The Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley is committed to the effective stewardship of our donors' gifts and to preserving and developing permanent resources for the future. We're committed to working with our Valley's nonprofits and community groups to enhance their abilities to achieve their goals and to accomplish their missions. And, we're committed to facilitating effective dialogue and the exchange of ideas within the community - to making life in the Gunnison Valley better both today and into the future as we keep a watchful eye on the needs of the community.
Because we are future-oriented, much of the CFGV's history is yet unwritten. With the backdrop of the magnificent Upper Gunnison Watershed providing the stage for unfolding events and adventures, with a diverse and committed Board of Directors and with the generosity of our population, both permanent and periodic, it is an exciting, relevant and heartwarming journey.
