Testimonials
I had the privilege to participate in youth programs at C4FAP. These programs were a transformative experience for me. Through them, photography went from an interest to a passion, one that I carry with me today. With the programs, I learned about every step in the photography process by practicing them from professionals---shooting, lighting, editing, image processing, framing, and hanging a show, while being encouraged to develop my own style and voice as a photographer. I continue to use this diverse skillset through my photography-recently, for instance, I was able to create a high-quality image set of products for a fair trade store in Ecuador. Besides gaining competency though, the program also instilled in me a sense of pride in my work and confidence as I was encouraged by the instructors, worked on community art pieces and saw my photos hanging on gallery walls at the end of the summer. I admire the atmosphere of mentorship that the center created with the program. The C4FAP staff treated us with respect and gave us agency over our work--things that are not always typical in youth programs. The skills I learned through the C4FAP programs played a role in many of my pursuits since (photography related and not!) and I will carry these skills forward with me through my life experiences to come. I'll always be grateful to C4FAP and the sponsors who made possible the programs I participated in there. I hope that many other youth in the community will have the opportunity to participate in similar programs! _Andrea Dean
"Just wanted to send you a quick thank you for your time and generosity over this past weekend. I am home again and back in the studio, trying to absorb the array of information of all different types-- conceptual, philosophical, and technical-- collected from you as well as the other artists in the show.
This weekend was something of a watershed moment for me in my life as I get back into showing my work again after time away. The most sincere thank you I can express for giving me the opportunity to do so.
I was trying to explain how I felt about the weekend to my friend Flavia in the car on the way back to Boulder on Saturday afternoon. I said, " I feel a little like how Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Lion and the Scarecrow must have felt after arriving in Emerald City to get buffed, polished and ready for the next stage of their journey." Not that it felt that superficial! More than it felt great to connect with others of like mind and get both encouraged and stimulated to do more and move forward, consciously." _ Randi Ganulin
