About Us

Since 1985, Voices for Children, CASA of Boulder County (VFC) has been a steadfast advocate for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or instability. Through the recruitment, training, and support of dedicated Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers, VFC ensures that each child involved in Dependency and Neglect or Truancy court proceedings has a consistent adult advocating for their best interests. These volunteers serve as a vital bridge between the child and the court system, helping to secure safe, permanent, and nurturing homes. VFC remains rooted in the belief that every child deserves a future filled with stability and hope.

Our Programs

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are community volunteers appointed by judges to advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect. CASA volunteers stay appointed to the case until the child is in a safe, permanent home and the case is closed by the court. CASA volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring that these children have a voice in the court system and receive the support they need to thrive.

Truancy and Truancy Prevention

Since 2016, Voices for Children, CASA of Boulder County has worked collaboratively with the 20th Judicial District, St. Vrain Valley School District, and Boulder Valley School District as part of Boulder County’s Truancy Improvement Project (TIP). When the school district files a Truancy case on behalf of a student, a CASA volunteer can be requested by the Judge, the school district, or the student’s Guardian ad Litem. Much like CASA volunteers appointed on Dependency and Neglect cases, the volunteer will advocate for the youth in court, prepare reports for the Judge and parties to review, and collaborate with various professionals to support the youth and family.

In 2025, Voices for Children, CASA of Boulder County launched a Truancy Prevention Program, aimed at mitigating barriers to attendance and supporting youth who are at-risk for becoming chronically truant. Educational Advocates work directly with youth, their families, and school professionals.

TBRI®

TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed framework that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. For children who have experienced abuse and neglect, it is often difficult for them to trust adults and manage their emotions and behaviors. TBRI® offers practical tools and training for parents, caregivers, and anyone who works with children to see the “whole child” in their care, meet their needs, and help that child thrive. By offering TBRI® training, we can offer resources to parents and caregivers to build stronger connections with their children. Our CASA staff and volunteers also utilize TBRI® principles in their work to provide wraparound trauma-informed support for the children and families we serve. TBRI® was developed by Dr. Karyn Purvis at Texas Christian University.

Why Your Support Matters

Right now, nearly 300 youth in Boulder County have the support of a CASA volunteer. With your generosity, we can continue to ensure that no child has to navigate the legal system alone.

  • $100 can help recruit and train new advocates
  • $250 can help provide ongoing support for a volunteer
  • $1,000 can give a child the steady support of a CASA for six months
  • $2,500 can help support a case to permanency
  • $5,000 can help change a child’s story for two year, the average time a D&N case is open
  • $10,000 can help offset the funding cuts and create stability

At Voices for Children, we believe every child deserves stability, safety, and hope. You can be the one to make that possible.

Mission

Voices for Children, CASA of Boulder County builds a healthier community by delivering services, support, and advocacy to children who have experienced trauma.

Background Statement

Voices for Children (VFC) was established in 1985 as part of the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) movement, which emerged in the late 1970s to provide best-interest advocacy for abused and neglected children. For 37 years, BVFC has remained dedicated to providing Boulder County’s most vulnerable children with CASA volunteers who ensure their needs are met as they navigate the child welfare system. Our goal is to ensure that every child in Boulder County has a safe and permanent home where they can thrive. In 2023, this equated to 206 children supported by 119 CASA volunteers, as some CASAs advocate for sibling groups.
