Boulder Chamber Orchestra

A nonprofit organization

Boulder Chamber Orchestra (BCO) was established in 2004, and stands as Boulder’s premier professional chamber orchestra. Since our formation, we have consistently played to sold-out audiences and featured some of the most sought-after musicians across the world. BCO is committed to playing under performed rarely heard pieces, to educate audiences and bring to light incredible composers.

Our mission is to promote classical musical arts and education to ALL people, through an engaging and profound musical experience.

Our goal is to make classical music accessible to all, through connection and education; giving back to the community in the form of affordable concerts and free educational classes. We exist to share the gift of music by playing pieces that not just entertain, but transform lives.

We believe that music is the ultimate form of communication. It reflects our thoughts, actions and our feelings as humans; Music connects us all in ways no other medium can, and brings us together, validating our existence as humans. This sharing of our humanity in form of sound is the reason we play.

BCO is committed to professional excellence, and to delivering performances of the highest quality. All of our musicians are professional musicians, who are paid for their time and talents.

We are always seeking new friends who share our love of music, and our commitment to enriching the Boulder arts community. There are many ways to get involved with BCO, whether it be playing in our orchestra, volunteering at our concerts, making a contribution to our organization, or spreading the word about our programs!

I love the programming of the BCO: baroque, classical, romantic, contemporary, and rarely performed "gems" of the repertoire. The atmosphere is great and very family-like: there's no anarchy, but everybody can express their ideas. The audience can feel that togetherness, and I think that's what makes the BCO the most sought-after chamber orchestra in the region. It's exciting, and brings in people that might not be interested in classical music otherwise!
- Annamária Karácson, BCO Concertmaster

I love that BCO brings such amazing musical programming. It's great! We appreciate everyone that makes this possible.
- Sarah Toohey, Audience Member

BCO has done what few performing arts organizations have been able to do, rise to great heights.

Background Statement

The Boulder Chamber Orchestra (BCO) was founded as a 501(c)3 entity in 2004 by Boulder resident and musician Bahman Saless. The original conception of BCO aimed to fill an important niche in the cultural landscape of Boulder and the surrounding areas - the performance of high quality professional-level orchestral chamber music that highlights the historic nature of chamber music in its purest form- dynamic performances in an intimate chamber setting. Our concerts are performed primarily in churches, which replicate the historic intimate and acoustic quality of chamber music. In addition, BCO aims to further enhance the knowledge and experience of chamber music to the citizens of Boulder and the surrounding areas through outreach and educational offerings. A strong branch of our outreach efforts focus on supporting and engaging youth, emerging musicians, elderly, disabled and under-resourced members of the community.
