Show Our Kids They're Seen, Supported and Truly Belong
Your gift builds the foundation for confident, compassionate learners—and helps every child grow in a community that celebrates difference as strength.
At Bal Swan, we believe every child deserves to be seen, supported and included from the very start. Our educators, therapists, and families work side-by-side to create a space where each child can discover their strengths, build friendships, and develop the skills they need for lifelong success.
Here’s what we do to make that possible:
Early Childhood Education – High-quality, inclusive classrooms for children ages 0–5.
Fully Integrated Universal Design Classrooms – One-third neurodivergent and two-thirds neurotypical peers learning together through empathy, inclusion and play. Our spaces intentionally designed to meet a wide range of learning needs and styles.
In-House Therapy Team – Occupational, physical and speech therapists working directly in classrooms every day.
Interdisciplinary Teaming – Educators, therapists and parents collaborate daily to guide each child’s development.
UPK School – Colorado UPK-approved program ensuring access to inclusive preschool for all.
Individualized Education – Personalized goals and supports to meet every child where they are.
Parenting Classes – Empowering caregivers with tools to extend learning and emotional growth at home.
Together, we’re building the foundation for a kinder, more inclusive Colorado—one child at a time.
Warmly,

Mission
Bal Swan Children's Center builds a social emotional foundation and creates an inclusive learning community where children and families grow and belong.
Background Statement
Bal Swan was founded in 1963 by families of children with special needs who refused to accept institutionalization as their only option. Their vision—to create a place where all children could learn side-by-side—sparked a movement that continues today.
In 1965, Bal Swan was selected as a pilot program by the state of Colorado to study the effectiveness of day programs for children with disabilities. With support from local philanthropist Bal Swan, the school found a permanent home in Broomfield and has grown into a leader in inclusive early learning. Bal Swan expanded its mission in 1973 to focus on inclusion, meaning that children of all abilities learn together in a strengths-based environment.
Decades later, the same innovative spirit guides us as we prepare every child to enter kindergarten with confidence, compassion and a strong sense of belonging. Today Bal Swan is the only nonprofit in Broomfield serving both neurotypical and neurodiverse children in a fully inclusive environment.
