These are just a few examples of what the impact of advocacy, training, and education provided by The Arc looks like for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Here at The Arc-JCCGC, we provide individualized support to people with disabilities and their families across their lifespans. We walk alongside people with IDD in achieving their goals, navigating complex systems for support, and having their voices heard. We hope you’ll join us in empowering our neighbors of all abilities this Colorado Gives Season.

During our last fiscal year, we supported over 330 people with IDD and their loved ones. We also expanded our advocacy like never before- including a new peer-to-peer advocacy program, creating even more free trainings and resources, and expanding our reach further into our mountain communities.

The landscape of uncertainty caused by state budget cuts has made the expansion of our advocacy even more essential. There has never been a more crucial time to give. Thank you for your generosity today and every day.

Mission

The Arc promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

Our vision is that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities will live the lives they choose as valued and respected members of the community.

We do this by:

-Empowering people with disabilities to build the skills and confidence required to advocate for themselves

-Educating families on how to navigate complicated systems and support their loved one’s needs and desires

-Expanding access to the systems that provide critical supports for people with IDD

-Erasing misperceptions about people with IDD

Background Statement

The Arc- Jefferson, Clear Creek & Gilpin Counties began in 1960 with a meeting of local parents of children with developmental disabilities. These parents wanted to create opportunities to raise their children at home instead of in institutions, and for their children to have access to education and to be valued in the community.

Officially granted 501(c)(3) status in 1961 and having finalized our incorporation in 1963, we have been around for over 60 years, and in that time, we have supported thousands of people in our community and their loved ones.

We have, and continue to, endorse reform in schools, the workplace, residential life, and in the broader community, all with the intent to promote independence and inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Arc- Jefferson, Clear Creek & Gilpin Counties serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities of all ages who reside in Jefferson, Clear Creek and Gilpin Counties.
