Testimonials

"I loved the people at the ASC - they were friendly, professional and fun to work with. Our instructors were safety conscious but instilled confidence. I was especially pleased that my children's instructors gave me lots of feedback on how they did. My instructors were great - they were able to explain what I should be doing very clearly." - Mother of ASC Participant

"This trip was the first time I've ever seen adaptive snow sports and it really opened my eyes to the possibilities for people with disabilities in the area of outdoor adventure. Just seeing the glowing faces of all of our participants and their confidence in themselves has made me that much more motivated to keep this winter program and hopefully a summer program going with ASC!" - Becky Bershtal, Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Hospital

"Thank you so very much for hosting the kiddos from Limbs for Life and their families. I hear everyone had an awesome time. Thank you for making a difference in their life's. You gave the an ability to do something they might not have otherwise had the opportunity to do." Pam Timmons, Limbs for Life Foundation

We just finished meeting with Chris' neuropsychologist at Inova, and surprisingly enough, the overall impression conveyed by him was that the greatest therapeutic impact from all of Chris' speech therapy, assessment testing, physical therapy, etc. was the Colorado trip. He felt that Chris returned a different person, and he lit up whenever they spoke about it.

Background Statement

The ASC was founded in 1987 when President and First Lady Carter joined a group of local residents to form the Physically Challenged Ski Program of Crested Butte. Since then, the program has evolved into the year-round, nationally recognized Adaptive Sports Center. Thanks to the support of volunteers, dedicated instructors and staff, as well as the local community, the ASC has thrived and grown from providing 33 alpine ski lessons during its first winter to becoming one of the premiere outdoor adaptive recreation programs in the world, offering more than 5,000 activities annually.
